Day 1: Arrival: Home/Mexico City

Arrival and private transfer in a mid-sized late model car from the Mexico City International Airport to Casa Vieja Boutique Hotel in the charming neighborhood of Polanco (:30 mins). Check in and enjoy a well deserved rest! (Overnight Casa Vieja: Suite) No Meals

Day 2: Mexico City: National Anthropology Museum / Historic Center / Zocalo

Today after a delicious breakfast you will be picked up in the hotel lobby at 9:00 a.m. in a mid-sized late model car for a full day privately guided tour of the world renowned National Anthropology museum. Your expert guide will add contour and colour to the myriad of fascinating exhibits. Continue to the historic city centre with continued commentary by your guide with visits to the Templo Mayor, Zocalo, Palacio de Bellas Artes, the National Cathedral and more depending on interest. Lunch is on your own today at one of the many fine eateries in the capital of one of the world’s great culinary countries. Afternoon return to your unique hotel for relaxation and dinner on your own in the hotel restaurant or one of the many excellent restaurants within walking distance. This evening after dinner you have seats at the world famous Folkloric Ballet at the Palacio de Bellas Artes. Day 3: Mexico City: Xochimilco

You will be met in the hotel lobby at 9:00 a.m. for a privately guided exploration of the subtler aspects of Mexico City in a mid-sized late model car. We head to the ancient Aztec waterways of Xochimilco, which remind us Mexico’s many layers of cultural and historical past. You have up to a two hour private ride in one of the traditional Trajineras(river boats in Nahuatl) to ply the ancient waterways with perhaps a stop in the Nativitas Embarcadero to the large crafts market for some shopping. In the afternoon we return to our lovely hotel to relax and freshen up for night on the town on your own. (Overnight Casa Vieja: Suite) B

Day 4: Teotihuacán / Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe

You will be met in the hotel lobby for a privately guided tour of the stunning archaeological zone of Teotihuacan, famous for the world’s 3rd and 4th largest pyramidal structures, the enormous Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon. Your transport today is in a mid-sized late model car. Again, your guide will enhance your experience with expert explanations of the importance of the site and its place in the rich history of Mexico’s many layers of pre-Columbian civilizations. Day 5: Mexico City DF/Taxco

After breakfast you will be picked up for a 6 day privately escorted tour of Mexico’s Colonial Heartland in a late model suburban (or equivalent). Your friendly guide/driver will be with you throughout and on call and you will set out for your first leg to Taxco. Upon arrival you will be treated to an overview of the historic center and then lunch on your own at one of the delicious local eateries before continuing on to check into your charming colonial hotel clinging to a hillside with sweeping dramatic views of town. Day 6: Taxco City Tour

Today after breakfast you will be picked up at 9:00 a.m. in the hotel lobby for a privately guided tour of the highlights of Taxco, one of Mexico’s most important silver mining cities during the colonial era. Visit the most important sites of interest with your guide including: Casa de la Cultura de Taxco (Casa Borda), Humboldt House/Museo Virreynal de Taxco, Los Castillos, Mercado Central, Museo Arqueológico Guillermo Spratling, the centerpiece Santa Prisca y San Sebastián Church, Silver Museum, and the Spratling Ranch Workshop. Day 7: Dia del Trabajo/San Jose Obrero: Taxco/Cuernavaca: City Center

After a lazy breakfast, continue on to Cuernavaca with your trusty guide/driver in your private vehicle. Visit the fascinating site of Xochicalco an important trade, spiritual and ritual center in pre-conquest Mexico. Because of its central location this site assimilates influences from the Toltec, Zapotec, Nahuatl, and even Maya civilizations. Spend two hours exploring the site including the revealing Pirámide de la Serpiente Emplumada or Pyramid of the feathered serpent, the most important and impressive structure found here. Continue on to Cuernavaca and you may opt to enjoy the fine cuisine of one of the best restaurants (and your hotel for the next two nights) in town, Las Mananitas on your own. After lunch you will check in to the exclusive and comfortable Las Mananitas Hotel. In the afternoon, visit the historic city center for an overview and orientation before leaving you to wander the cobblestone streets and take in the atmosphere of colonial Mexico or relax in the city square (Zocalo). You are lucky to be in Mexico today as it is the Dia del Trabajo/San Jose Obrero (Labor Day), and there will be civic parades and speeches given in celebration of Mexico’s most honored hero, the worker! You will be oriented to the best areas to view and participate in the festivities by your guide. Your guide will leave you this afternoon and you will be on your own for the next 3 nights. Day 8: Cuernavaca: City Tour
